Getting your child excited about oral health can be pretty difficult. If you’ve been trying to instill good dental hygiene habits into your child, you’re probably well aware that brushing for two minutes at a time and flossing each day can be a serious hurdle for a lot of kids.

Thankfully, there’s a wide variety of products that are readily available and that can get your child to actually enjoy brushing their teeth. Here are a few examples.

Electric Toothbrush

For the first years of their life, you’ll probably have to do a lot of your child’s brushing for them. One of the first challenges parents face when it comes to dental hygiene is getting their kids to brush properly on their own. An electric toothbrush can help you make the transition as easy as possible.

Electric toothbrushes are substantially easier to use than analog brushes, and ones made for kids are designed to be as appealing for them as possible. Some of them even connect to apps on your phone that turn brushing into a game!

Brushing Timer

Even if your kid is willing and able to brush on their own, they might struggle with doing it for the full two minutes. Electric brushing timers can be a big help by playing songs or talking your child through the process of brushing their teeth. Many of them also have fun designs featuring characters that kids will enjoy.

WaterPiks

While brushing can be difficult for kids to master, flossing can be almost impossible, especially for younger children. However, cleaning plaque deposits out from between the teeth is crucially important to mitigating the risk of gum disease.

WaterPiks are easy for children to use, and don’t come with the risk of your child hurting themselves by flossing improperly. However, they can also be a little messy, so it may be a good idea to supervise your child when they first get one to ensure that they’re using it properly.

While none of these products are magically going to make your children excited about their oral health, they can all be a good starting point to get your child excited about taking care of their teeth.
