SureSmile Aligners: A Smart Alternative to Invisalign?

When it comes to getting the straighter smile you love, traditional braces aren’t the only option anymore. Clear aligners have become popular among adults and teens alike as they are a discreet orthodontic option. As you look into them, Invisalign seems to take the cake, but it isn’t the only option. In fact, some patients may benefit from an alternative instead! Here’s what you need to know.

What Is SureSmile?

Another brand of clear aligners your dentist might offer is SureSmile. This treatment uses the same tray formula for wearing them for 20 to 20 hours every day. You’ll only remove them to eat and drink anything other than water, and they’ll gradually correct your misalignment and malocclusions.

How Are Invisalign and SureSmile Similar?

Both Invisalign and SureSmile start with a consultation. Your provider will take X-rays and photographs to see what bite issues you have. If you are a good candidate for this type of orthodontics, then you’ll have impressions taken, and a lab will create the aligners you’ll wear based on them.

You’ll be given multiple sets at a time, switching out every week or so. Progress checks will be needed to ensure that everything is moving as it should and that you get to the results you love.

How Are They Different?

While the journey with your trays may be similar, there are some differences that you should know, such as:

  • Included Aligners: When you get Invisalign, you get 5 years of custom aligners; however, you only get 3 with SureSmile. Any past this timeframe will need you to pay out of pocket.
  • Tray Material: Invisalign uses a plastic known as SmartTrack, while Suresmile uses Essix Ace. Both are considered to be comfortable and have predictable movement, but the former is a bit more precise.
  • Cost: While this largely depends on your unique case, Invisalign tends to be more than Suresmile because of the included aligners.
  • How Fast They Straighten: You may start to see improvements with SureSmile within three to six months, wrapping up treatment in about 12 to 24 months. Invisalign may take anywhere from six months to several years.

Is SureSmile Right for Me?

Both of these orthodontics are reliable and great choices, but the right one for you depends on your bite issues. If your estimated timeline is just a couple of years, then SureSmile can be a more cost-effective option for you. However, that price still depends on your misalignment, so be sure to ask your dentist any questions you have. In the end, you’ll be able to enjoy a comfortable journey to a straighter smile you love.
